STANDOFF by Patricia Bradley

This is my first Patricia Bradley novel but it won’t be my last! I love the way she weaves the romance into a suspense novel. But make no mistake, suspense is definitely the shining star in STANDOFF–just the way I like it!

Standoff (Natchez Trace Park Rangers Book #1)

I don’t like to give away plots in my reviews but I’ll tell you this much. The story centers around Brooke Danvers who is about to become a park ranger when her father (a park ranger) is found dead. His death is ruled a suicide but Brooke knows her father well enough to know that’s not true. And she plans on proving it–even if she is a rookie. Her old flame, Luke, shows up. Brooke thinks he’s a bartender but he’s actually working undercover.

And that’s all the teaser I’m going to give you. But there’s plenty of suspense and action to keep you turning the pages. Bradley is an award-winning novelist and it shows in STANDOFF.  I quite enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys suspense and mysteries.

My only complaint with the novel is that its Christian message is a bit on the weak side. The characters are definitely Christian but I like to see more of a spiritual message in Christian fiction books. But it’s still a good book that I liked.

What makes this book a modern-day parable? The book tells a story about people who believe in Jesus’s Gospel of love interacting with each other.

The residents of Triville are bound together by their Christian faith. They’re certainly not perfect. Actually, they’re a bit gossipy and quirky, but they believe in Jesus’s teaching.

They’re much like the residents in the small town at the foothills of the N.C. Mountains where I grew up. They have acquaintances, close friends, people they tolerate, and those they keep at a distance. However, when a crisis strikes prayers go up and casseroles go out no matter how close or distant the person in need.

In the words of Lloyd Rock, the local mechanic in Hair Calamities and Hot Cash, “…we take care of each other…”

Gail has graciously agreed to give away an e-copy of Hair Calamaties and Hot Cash. To be entered leave a comment.

The Way of The Brave by Susan May Warren

Book Review

The Way of the Brave (Global Search and Rescue Book #1)

I was excited to read The Way of the Brave by Susan May Warren but… this book was not for me.

The story was good. The characters interesting.  Lots of tension. Great romance. The writing was even better!  So, why wasn’t this book a favorite for me?

Both characters are mountain climbers and the story revolves around mountain climbing. Susan May Warren does an amazing job of creating word pictures that got me right up on that mountain with them. And that’s the problem. I’m not an outdoorsy-type person. I have absolutely no interest in mountain climbing, whether it be on a mountain or in my armchair reading.  So unfortunately, this wasn’t a book that I particularly enjoyed but… if you’re more adventurous than me, it might be just the book you’re looking for. And it won’t stop me from reading another Susan May Warren book–she’s an awesome writer.

Match Made in Heaven by Julie Arduini

GIVEAWAY!

Match Made in Heaven giveaway: One US winner can choose eBook or print version. If international winner, reader receives eBook. Leave a comment to be entered for the giveaway.

Match Made in Heaven blurb:

Beth Prescott wants to make a difference with the senior citizens she serves as a volunteer coordinator, but their matchmaking efforts leave her guarded. She’s experienced too much pain to make that leap again.

Dean Kellerman returns to the Finger Lakes area to help his grandfather and heal his own broken heart. He’s recommitted his life to Christ, and doesn’t want any distractions.

When his grandfather needs assistance with a senior program, it places Dean right in Beth’s path. Can these two surrender their pasts to Christ and have faith in each other and their future?

What makes Match Made In Heaven a modern day parable?

Match Made in Heaven is a modern-day parable because it’s not afraid to address issues readers might not otherwise read and learn about. It’s the first Christian romance I wrote and I revised it in 2019 to include a diagnosis that is something our family knows well. Beth doesn’t trust God because with her congenital hypothyroidism, she’s had to work twice as hard all her life. She’s faced bullying and verbal abuse. Through Christian romance readers can learn from Beth’s journey that God’s faithful and loves us more than we can ever imagine.

Julie Arduini  loves to encourage readers to find freedom in Christ by surrendering the good, the bad, and —maybe one day—the chocolate. She’s the author of the contemporary romance series SURRENDERING TIME, (Entrusted, Entangled, Engaged,) as well as the stand-alone novellas, MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN and RESTORING CHRISTMAS. She also shares her story in the infertility devotional, A WALK IN THE VALLEY. Her other latest release, YOU’RE AMAZING, is a book for girls ages 10-100, written with her teenaged daughter, Hannah, and is book 2 in their SURRENDERING STINKIN’ THINKIN’ series. She blogs every other Wednesday for Christians Read, as well as monthly with Inspy Romance. She resides in Ohio with her husband and two children.
